This position reports directly to the EVP of Property Management Accounting. CCI Management is CCI’s Property Management division, which is responsible for providing property management services to around 100 properties around the country. About the role:
The Vice President (VP) of Accounting is a seasoned business leader and a key member of CCI Management’s Senior Management Team, reporting to the Executive Vice President of Property Management. This position holds full responsibility for the integrity, performance, and oversight of all CCI Management accounting and financial operations—both at the property level and for the management company itself.
The VP sets and enforces the organization’s financial direction, leading initiatives related to internal controls, risk mitigation, budgetary discipline, audit and tax readiness, financial planning, and systems optimization. The VP oversees financial strategy, enterprise-wide reporting, and operational performance metrics. This role functions as the financial steward of CCI Management, shaping the company’s financial health and contributing directly to strategic decision-making, growth planning, and organizational stability.
Key Responsibilities:
Executive Leadership and Strategy
- Serve as the senior financial and accounting lead for CCI Management, functioning as the top internal authority on all accounting, financial planning, and fiscal compliance matters.
- Partner with the EVP and executive team to drive financial and operational strategy, resource allocation, cash planning and analysis, and long-term growth planning.
- Represent CCI’s financial interests in discussions with auditors, lenders, investors, regulatory agencies, and major third-party partners.
- Lead the annual CCI Management corporate budgeting process, forecasting, and reforecasting activities; develop financial dashboards and KPIs to drive accountability and results.
- Partner with Property Management Operations to ensure the property budgeting process is executed to a high quality and in keeping with internal stakeholder and third party owner and investor expectations.
- Present financial performance insights and strategic recommendations to CCI’s executive leadership team.
Financial Operations and Controls
- Establish and enforce internal control policies to ensure integrity of financial reporting and to safeguard company assets.
- Oversee the preparation and analysis of property-level financials, monthly management company reports, and consolidated enterprise financial statements.
- Drive compliance with GAAP and all applicable financial and regulatory standards across corporate and property portfolios.
- Maintain financial discipline across intercompany transactions, payroll allocations, cash management, and cost sharing across business units.
- Lead the development of finance and accounting systems infrastructure to support growth, reporting efficiency, and internal control integrity.
Compliance, Audit, and Tax Strategy
- Provide strategic oversight of annual audits, lender reviews, and program compliance testing (including HUD and Tax Credit requirements), ensuring timely completion and remediation of issues. Develop and maintain robust tracking systems to ensure timely completion of all regulatory filings.
- Oversee tax strategy and compliance, including coordination of all filings for nonprofit entities and affordable housing partnerships.
- Lead risk mitigation initiatives related to accounting practices, reporting exposures, and fiscal compliance.
- Ensure readiness for regulatory examinations, financial due diligence, and special project reviews.
Departmental Leadership
- Directly manage the team leaders for property and corporate accounting teams.
- Foster a unified, high-performance accounting culture focused on accuracy, collaboration, and strategic partnership with operations.
- Identify staffing needs and champion the development of finance and accounting talent through coaching, mentorship, and succession planning.
- Promote a data-driven culture and ensure integration of accounting with other functions including operations, compliance, procurement, and asset management.
- Identify opportunities to streamline staffing structures and achieve more value per dollar spent, considering automation, AI and outsourcing options.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required; Master’s in Business Administration or related discipline preferred.
- CPA required (or significant demonstrated expertise in public accounting and private sector finance leadership).
- Minimum 10 years progressive leadership in accounting/finance, including at least 5 years in a senior executive or top-tier financial oversight role.
- Extensive experience in both property management accounting and enterprise-level financial management.
- Deep expertise in affordable housing program compliance (HUD, LIHTC, layered funding) and nonprofit reporting standards.
- Proven track record of driving business results through financial discipline, systems development, and executive-level reporting.
