About the Job
The Accounting Manager is responsible for managing day-to-day accounting functions, including financial reporting, payroll, budgeting, and compliance. This individual will lead a small team, establish internal controls, and contribute to financial strategy through analysis and collaboration with senior stakeholders. The role requires an organized and analytical professional with a strong understanding of GAAP and operational finance.
Key Responsibilities
- Manages the accounting staff who are responsible for financial reporting, billing, collections, payroll, and budget preparation.
- Recruits and hires accounting and financial staff and conducts performance evaluations.
- Coordinates training programs for new staff and identifies training needs for current staff.
- Establishes internal controls and guidelines for accounting transactions and budget preparation.
- Oversees preparation of business activity reports, financial forecasts, and annual budgets.
- Oversees the production of periodic financial reports; ensures that the reported results comply with generally accepted accounting principles or financial reporting standards.
- Responsible for tax planning throughout the fiscal year; files annual corporate tax return.
- Audits accounts to ensure compliance with state and federal regulations; coordinates with outside auditors and provides needed information for the annual external audit.
- Presents recommendations to management on short- and long-term financial objectives and policies.
- Provides financial analysis with an emphasis on capital investments, pricing decisions, and contract negotiations.
- Ensures compliance with local, state, and federal government requirements.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or assigned.
- Must have the ability to meet deadlines, including availability to work overtime and/or weekends as necessary to meet deadlines
- Assist with interal and external audit processes as assigned
- Able to identify and present work flow improvements for manager review
- Adheres to the company established Financial Integrity Policy
- Maintains financial security and confidentiality by following internal accounting controls
- Adheres to policies and procedures set forth in the employee handbook at all times
Qualifications
- MS Office Suite with intermediate level Excel experience preferred
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
- Ability to clearly communicate verbally and in writing
- Solid customer service and collections skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced multi-deadline work environment
- Strong work ethic, high standards for work product, honesty, and integrity
- Incredible team player with a positive attitude
